I have never been a big fan of really scary movies….I am in fact a bit of a weenie. However when I saw the that the trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 is out, I immediately remembered the one time I did watch a scary movie…and it scared the snot out of me.
Of course it was the mother of ALL scary movies- The Exorcist. So I really can’t be blamed for being a bit freaked out…except it was on TV (and edited accordingly) and I was 16 at the time.
My oldest sister, my mom and I were all on my mom’s bed watching the movie together and having a grand time. However my mind refused to turn off when the movie stopped- continually playing scenes and sounds over and over in my head. So of course it wasn’t the cat stalking some random dust bunny in the night- it was a demon ready to burst into my room, suck out my soul and send me to Hell. It wasn’t the TV still playing in my parent’s bedroom I heard. Instead it was a chorus of disembodied spirits speaking in tongues and trying to determine what would be the best way to torment me.
About 1am, I cried uncle to the darkness and turned on the light in my bedroom, grabbed a book off my desk and prepared to read until dawn. That was when my bedroom door bust open (which almost caused me to scream, have an embarrassing accident and faint dead away all at exactly the same moment) and a hideous blob shuffled into my room. OK it wasn’t actually a blob, it was my sister wrapped up in blanket blurting out “I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t sleep! I’m sleeping in here.” By the way…she was 21 at the time
So I think I will stick with my comedies and Lord of the Ring Trilogies and let the demons torment others. However, if you are looking for a scare you can check out the Paranormal Activity 4 trailer here. You can see the movie itself when it opens in October
