  All Day Lions Club Rain Barrel Fundraiser   As a new fundraiser this Spring, the Springfield Noon Lions Club is selling rain barrels at discounted prices. Plastic 55-gallon rain barrels are available in black, blue, grey, and terra cotta for $70. Oak 54-gallon rain barrels are available for $155 if they are unfinished and $170 if they are refinished. Accessories such as downspout diverters and pedestals are also available. The brochure and order form can be viewed at Color photographs of the rain barrels are available at Orders will be taken from April 1 until May 10. Rain barrels will be available for pick up on May 18 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 829 South 11th Street, Springfield (at the former Glass Specialty location). Customers of City Water, Light & Power may be eligible for a $25 rebate.
  All Day Illinois Artisans Program   he Illinois Artisans Program is approaching its 30th year! We would like to invite you to become part of this unique and growing program. Created in 1985 by Governor James R. Thompson, the program draws national and statewide attention to the exceptional fine craft and art in the state. The program provides venues for the display and sale of one-of-a-kind work all made in Illinois. Spring deadline is extended to April 11. Application available at Juried artisans participate in solo and group exhibitions, arts sprees (indoor art fairs), demonstrations and teach classes. Three not-for-profit venues operate under statutory authority of the Illinois State Museum Society to display and sell Illinois artisans work in over 26 media categories including: ceramics, glass, jewelry, painting, fiber arts, furniture, as well as fine art. Illinois Artisans Program Locations: -Illinois Artisans, Chicago -Southern Illinois Art & Artisans Center, Rend Lake -Museum Store, Illinois State Museum, Springfield Requirements: To become a juried artist in the Artisans Program, an artist must live and work within Illinois. A body of work must then be reviewed and accepted by a jury-panel. Artists apply in a specific media category and the cost is $30 per application.

  9:00AM 10:30PM Nature Story Adventures   Outdoor learning for preschoolers with accompanying adults Join us each week as we continue to explore the spring season with interactive story time and outdoor fun. We’ll read a story, head out for a discovery hike, make a simple nature craft, and eat a healthy snack. Nature Story Adventures will be held on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The family cost per session is $5 for Garden members and $10 for nonmembers. Although not required, reservations are appreciated. We’ll look at all kinds of native birds’ nests and hike around the Garden looking for more examples in the branches of our many trees. April 11 Lost in the Woods.......Fawns are often found alone in the woods in the spring. We’ll learn more about our state mammal, the white tailed deer, and why their babies spend much of their first weeks alone. April 18 Earth Day Birthday.......Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd all around the globe. We’ll explore our native Illinois ecosystems to learn more about our special piece of the Earth here in the Garden. Let’s make an Earth Day Birthday cake! April 25 Fairy Houses -Everywhere.......Surrounded by Nature’s beauty on a warm spring day, we’ll look at a lovely photographic book of fairy houses, collect some natural materials on our hike that are no longer growing, and build miniature rustic dwellings against the backdrop of blossom time in the Garden.
