  9:15AM 11:30AM Springfield Civic Garden Club   “Fall Into Colorful Container Plantings That Endure Seasonal Temperature Swings.” Speaker: Laurie McWilliams, co-owner of Coppertree Outdoor Lifestyles, Springfield. Examples of beautiful autumn color and textures will be demonstrated as well as techniques for a successful planting. Laurie’s artistic nature led her into landscape design and she learned to create beautiful pictures through plants. With an eye for spatial arrangement, container design was a logical extension of landscape design, but on a smaller scale. Garden related and quality hand crafted items will be offered for sale before and after the meeting. Come early and enjoy this unique sale. Ten percent of the profits will go to SCGC.   7:00PM 9:00PM The Importance of Being Earnest Auditions   Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) Theatre will hold auditions Sept. 9-11 from 7 to 9 p.m. for its production of “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Auditions will take place in the lower level of Sangamon Hall South on the Springfield campus. Persons unable to audition those evenings should email the director, Mark Hardiman, assistant professor of theatre, at mark.hardiman@llcc.edu. Performances will be Dec. 5- 8, 13 and 14 in the same location. This fresh take on Oscar Wilde’s comedy will explore the world of steampunk by drawing on fashion of the Victorian era. All roles are open in this production. Auditions will include reading from the script and movement exercises. The cast is comprised of adults and young adults able to play 19 years and older. College students and community members are encouraged to audition. Those interested in backstage duties, stage management or assistant to the director should drop by auditions for a brief conference with the director. LLCC Theatre is committed to education in theatre, emphasizing not only performance but also growth in those involved in the production.
