  All Day Holiday Book Drive   The 4th annual Holiday Book Drive will take place during the month of November. New books for children (ages birth to age 12) are being collected and will be distributed at Christmas time to needy children in the area, You can help by dropping off new books at one of the following sites: Chatham Area Public Library, Chatham Presbyterian Church, Rochester High School, Rochester Elementary (2-3 building), Williamsville Library, Williamsville Methodist Church, Sherman Elementary, Trinity Lutheran Preschool Auburn, State Journal Register, Safe School Program (Capital Career Center), or Bridge Club of Springfield. Checks may be made out to Holiday Book Drive and sent to Bank & Trust P.O. Box 228 Chatham, IL 62629. Every dollar donated will go directly to the purchase of new books.

  8:30AM 5:00PM Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art   Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art brings together historical and contemporary body-based art by over fifty artists from the Illinois State Museum collection. The exhibition emphasizes the power and the range of the narrative and expressive uses of the figure in Midwest art. The artworks were selected to create a better understanding and consideration of different representational styles and the ability of the figure to carry feeling, memory, and experience. They were also selected with an eye toward something fantastic—a heightened sense of the super-real or super-natural—whether through aggressive, expressive form, high-keyed color, inventive graphics, or ambiguous situations. The Museum is open from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and from 12:00-5:00 on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible.   6:00PM 8:00PM Diabetes Self-Management Event Offered at SIU Med   Adults with diabetes are invited to attend a diabetes self-management event offered by the Division of Endocrinology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The free education program, ‘Stick With It!,” will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, at the Simmons Cancer Institute, 320 W. Carpenter St., Springfield. The program is designed for adults with diabetes and their support persons. It will provide information about various aspects of living with diabetes, including potential complications, nutrition, testing and monitoring. Instructors are Caren Bryant, nurse diabetes educator, Cheryl Burns, registered dietitian, and Dr. Jonathan Sagum, endocrinology fellow, all with SIU. Various displays, prize drawings, give-aways and refreshments will be available. Participants must register before October 30. Parking is available in the adjacent lot.
