  All Day Children's Holiday Store   The 24th Children's Holiday Store is the biggest funraiser for the Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery. At the store children shop with the help of a volunteer while parents wait in the lobby. Gifts range from $1 to $10 so there is plenty of variety. Once they have found the "perfect" gift, children, bag and tag each gift with their volunteer before leaving the store. Open Saturday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 23. Location: Town & Country Shopping Center (between Chuck E Cheese and Tuesday Morning in the former Designer Chic store). The Children's Holiday Store Hours: Monday–Friday ….....4-8 p.m. Saturdays ……………10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sundays ………...…..noon-5 p.m.
 
  All Day COAT DRIVE   During the months of December and January, the Rochester Public Library will be holding their annual Coat Drive. Accepted articles for the collection will be new or gently used coats, both children and adults), hats, scarves, and gloves.   8:30AM 5:00PM Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art   Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art brings together historical and contemporary body-based art by over fifty artists from the Illinois State Museum collection. The exhibition emphasizes the power and the range of the narrative and expressive uses of the figure in Midwest art. The artworks were selected to create a better understanding and consideration of different representational styles and the ability of the figure to carry feeling, memory, and experience. They were also selected with an eye toward something fantastic—a heightened sense of the super-real or super-natural—whether through aggressive, expressive form, high-keyed color, inventive graphics, or ambiguous situations. The Museum is open from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and from 12:00-5:00 on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible.   8:30AM 5:00PM Food Drive   Share your good fortune this holiday season by contributing to a food drive sponsored by The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois State Museum (ISM) to benefit the Central Illinois Foodbank. Through Dec. 31 drop off goods at the ISM lobby Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Closed Christmas Day. Help People in Need & Donate to the Central Illinois Foodbank. When you come in out of the cold to rediscover the Illinois State Museum this holiday season, be sure to bring a little something extra to add to a very important wooden box in the first floor main lobby. The IDNR and ISM are collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to the Central Illinois Foodbank to help people and families in need.   12:15PM 12:45PM Advent Brown Bag Concert Series   Wednesday, December 4, 2013 | 12:15 p.m. Sangamon Brass Quintet / Wednesday, December 11, 2013 | 12:15 p.m. David Plank, piano and accordion/ Wednesday, December 18, 2013 | 12:15 p.m. Annual Christmas Music and Carol Singing, Rudolf Zuiderveld, organ, with Becky Kemp, soprano, and Angela Pryer, piano. Every year First Presbyterian Church Music and the Arts hosts musical events that include two Brown Bag Concert Series. This concert series is the longest continuous lunchtime concert series in Springfield. The four concerts in Advent and the six concerts in Lent take place at lunchtime on Wednesdays during these winter and spring seasons. Students, retirees and business people looking for a refreshing break in the middle of the day have enjoyed the diverse programming. The half-hour - midday - free concerts offer a variety of musical presentations by the finest local and visiting artists. Artists have included a vocal chamber ensemble, an early music ensemble, organists, a brass ensemble, a soprano soloist, and a string quartet, among others. (Emerging young artists are often highlighted in the Brown Bag Concerts, and they are additionally showcased in the annual Central Illinois Young Musicians' Concert each May.) The audience is invited to enjoy lunch during the concerts, and delicious brown bag lunches may be purchased at the door for $5. You may bring your own lunch, if you wish. We are grateful for your generous contributions as your donations have sustained this free concert series for more than a quarter century.
 
  5:00PM 8:00PM DSI Santa House   The Santa House is open during the evenings of the Old Capitol Holiday Walk, Dec. 4, 5,11 and 18 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1-4 p.m., and Dec. 14 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children receive a free photo with Santa and candy cane lollipop, courtesy of Town & Country Bank. A live reindeer will also be onsite near the Santa House for free photo opportunities each evening of the Walk. "Dasher" is hosted by the AOA of Springfield, Inc. Donations benefit the Needy Children's Christmas Fund which provides gifts to over 300 children each year. Contributions are accepted through Dec. 20.
